I have a court date in New Orleans but can’t attend. What should i do?

Image by Bryan Bruchman via Flickr I am due in court on 2 small charges. I have an attorney representing me. How do I find out if he is legitimate?  He is charging me $1,300 to sort out the charges.  What are the implications if it is not sorted out?
